This open source CAD modelling software is the go to platform for creating 3D models for prototyping as it is flexible, precise and 100% free to use. Found a device on thingiverse but it's all in metric and you need it in SAE? No problem! Simply pop open that model in OpenSCAD, tweak a couple numbers in the code that defines the model, and you've got your brand new part ready for 3D printing! If you’ve ever wanted or needed a replacement part for an item that you can’t find, can’t buy, or simply isn’t available any more, OpenSCAD is what you need. OpenSCAD is a simple 3D modeling program which is excellent for making precise, dimension specific parts meant for practical use. With some familiarity with it, you can even use it with an artistic sense. Unlike other 3D modeling programs, OpenSCAD is done entirely through coding with a very simple interface which we will walk you through and teach you the basics of programming (it’s actually pretty straightforward). We’ll show you how to make basic shapes and combine and cut them from one another to provide the shapes you need. We can also tell you about resources for more advanced work for when you’re more comfortable with the software.
