More Info

The Casualties: This punk band from New York City embodies the type of punk bands that have been MIA since 1985, such as UK groups The Exploited and Charged GBH. The Casualties currently includes George Herrera on lead vocals, Rick Lopez on vocals and bass, Jake Kolatis on vocals and guitar, and Marc “Meggers” Eggers on drums.

In 1990 The Casualties were born out of a desire to return to the heyday of punk, an era that hung on into the early '80s and then started to fall by the wayside in favor of the very early grunge movement, as well as hair metal, synth pop, and new wave. But the lineup was far from stable in the early days. The initial lineup consisted of singers Jorge Herrera and Colin, drummer Yureesh, guitarist Hank, and bassist Mark. Even this inaugural lineup was shaky, with Colin stepping out for several months, and Rivits singer Rachel stepping in to take his place. The following year, the core lineup consisted of Colin, Jorge, Yureesh, and Mark. The band added guitarist Fred when Hank dropped out, and went on to make an appearance on the compilation Benefit for Beer. Soon more changes were in the works, with new guitarist Fred heading off to school. C Squat's Scott temporarily filled Fred's shoes until he returned a short time later. During this period, guitarist Hank came and went a second time.

The group stabilized long enough to put together an EP. 40 Ounce Casualty, in 1991. Soon after, the band began to tour and build a strong fan base in their home of NYC. Through 1995, the band went through more upheaval and changing members, but they were still able to put out a second EP, Drinking is Our Way of Life. Their third EP, A Fuckin’ Way of Life, was created in time for their 1996 trip to London to perform in the Holidays in the Sun Festival. In 1997 The Casualties released their first full-length album, For the Punx, and began touring as openers for The Varukers. In the early 00s, the band released Who’s in Control?, Stay Out of Order, and Die Hards, with the latter marking their debut on Side One Dummy. The band continued to release more albums, securing their place in the infamous Warped Tour year after year.

2012 will be a busy year for The Casualties. In addition to their Tonight We Unite tour that takes them everywhere from New York to Hollywood, the band will be in the studio with famed producer Zeuss working on a possible 2012 album. Make sure to stay updated on their tour dates demand The Casualties to let them know where their biggest fans are.
